  • you must own the home and live in it
  • your home must have a need for energy efficiency upgrades

Total Home Energy Savings Program

To be eligible to participate in the Total Home Energy Savings Program you must meet these requirements:

  • You must be the legal Property Owner to apply for the Total Home Energy Savings Program.

  • Your home is: a residential property, no more than three stories high, smaller than 600 m² (6458 ft²)*. Single-family homes, detached, side-by-side, or row homes are eligible.

  • Buildings that participated in any of Efficiency NB’s programs or NB Power’s Home Insulation Energy Savings Program that still need upgrades.

New-Home Energy Savings Program

The New-Home Energy Savings Program is an NB Power initiative that provides financial incentives to builders and homebuyers in New Brunswick for building energy-efficient homes. To participate, builders pay a modeling fee ($99+HST), and homebuyers can receive rebates by either choosing at least five “Prescriptive” upgrades or by reaching a high “Energy Performance Tier” (Tier 3, 4, or 5) based on the 2020 National Building Code, which can be up to a $15,000$ rebate. Homes must be in New Brunswick and heated by electricity, wood, natural gas, or propane to be eligible.

How it works

  • Register: Builders must register the home plans before a building permit is issued.
  • Energy Modeling: An energy advisor will model the home’s energy performance based on the plans for a $99 fee.
  • Choose an incentive path:
    • Prescriptive Option: Select at least five upgrades from a list of approved prescriptive options.
    • Performance Tier Option: Meet specific energy efficiency targets based on the 2020 National Building Code. Tier 3, 4, or 5 are eligible for rebates of up to $15,000
  • Build: The home is built according to the energy-efficient plan.
  • Final Evaluation: After construction, an energy advisor will conduct an on-site evaluation to confirm the upgrades and performance targets have been met.

Eligibility

  • Homes located in New Brunswick.
  • Heated by electricity, wood, natural gas, or propane.
  • Single detached, semi-detached, and row houses.
  • Manufactured dwellings on a permanent foundation.
  • In-law suites and accessory dwelling units that meet certain conditions.
  • Not eligible: Cottages, commercial buildings, or multi-unit buildings with three or more units.

Benefits

  • Lower energy bills: Building more efficiently leads to long-term savings on energy costs.
